New Marking Service

Now that my own son has reached Year 10 I am increasingly conscious of the marking that goes on in schools. Although all schools and teachers are different, there are few who can regularly provide detailed feedback to all their students. Many rely on agreed shorthand that the students are expected to interpret, often they make reference to the Assessment Objectives of the particular subject. Sometimes a marking grid is provided where the teacher can tick off the things that the student has done and the things the student needs to improve. These are all useful tools but inevitably they lack the detail that can really make the difference to a student's development.

My new marking service is available to anyone - you do not have to commit to tuition - and provides a detailed, clear annotation of the work, as well as a thorough explanation of what has gone well and what needs improving. Crucially, it also comes with guidance and exercises to help the student develop.

How it works

Marking is available for both History and English. First fill in the form telling me which subject, level, exam board, and topic. You can opt for a single long-form question or a whole exam paper. Within 48hrs you'll receive a question or paper to complete. You can do this by hand or typed (although I always recommend writing by hand wherever possible). Once it is complete, use a scanner or a scanner app on your phone (I like Adobe Scan) to take pictures of the work and send it back.

Within 72hrs you will receive back: your work with detailed annotations noting particular successes, mistakes, and areas requiring improvement; a long-form feedback response including what an examiner is looking for, different approaches that could have been used, and a likely grade; a follow-up exercise to allow the student to practice and improve on their weaknesses which will also receive feedback.
